Solving Global Tomographic Models with 3D Spherical Wavelets

Yanhua Yuan:, Frederik Simons:, et alia:

Sparsity of the P-wave seismic model of Montelli et al.(2006) under incremental hard thresholding of their wavelets & scaling coefficients using 3D spherical wavelets (in the right panel), at the depth of 406 km, for cubed voxels with 6*2^(3N) elements(N=7), and to a 2^J dyadic subdivision (J=3). For comparison, the left panel displays sparsity performances (l2 norm of the reconstruction error) of 2D spherical wavelets under 0%, 50%, 85%, 95%,98% hard thresholding.
