Seismicity Distribution in the Peruvian Andes
Zagid Abatchev: UCLA, Paul Davis: UCLA.
We are locating earthquakes using data from our Peru Seismic Experiment (PeruSE) which involves a collaboration between Caltech, IPG, Peru and UCLA. Our locating algorithms have shown an anomaly in seismic activity directly North-East of our station array, parallel to the coastline, which appears to have low seismic activity levels. We are currently investigating possible reasons for the anomaly, including plate depth, temperature, and stress buildup due to Andean topography.
