The Geology Department of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez is seeking applications for a research faculty position in the Puerto Rico Seismic Network (PRSN), in the fields of seismology and earthquake/tsunami monitoring. The appointment will be as a faculty researcher, with an academic rank equivalent to an assistant professor. Salary is commensurate with academic rank and higher rank may be considered based on exceptional qualifications and experience. Candidates must have a doctoral degree (PhD) in geophysics or a closely associated field at the time of appointment. Fluency in English or Spanish is required and fluency in both highly preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct basic and applied research in geophysics/seismology, contribute to the operations and administration of the seismic network and to the advancement of the network through the development of externally funded initiatives. As a member of the Geology faculty, supervision of undergraduate and graduate student research is expected and opportunities to develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses will be available. Other duties are related to the university-regulated responsibilities inherent to the position.
