Orientation games that double as analogies for learning

This is a collection of dual-purpose activities is designed to both engage interns in fun activities that build group cohesion, while also serving as analogies that activate and facilitate learning about the internship/research process. Currently, there are three activities in the collection. However, the intention is that this list will grow over time so please check back.

Game 1: Pick-up Sticks (Knowledge/Decision Making)
Learning Goal:The goal of this activity is to convey that “Knowledge is Power.”

Game 2: Mind Power (Goal-setting/Metacognition
Learning: The goal of this activity is “you can do anything you set your mind to”. The demo and quote by Ben Franklin is intended to engageinterns in a session on setting SMART goals and actively monitor them.

Game 3: Inquiring Minds (Communication)
Learning: The goal of this activity is to illustrate that communication is a critical component of an internship. It involves both active listening and effort (and personal risk) when responding, especially during virtual communication.
