STATEMENT

I grew up professionally with IRIS. The first PASSCAL project I did over 20 years ago helped to launch my academic career, and support from IRIS ever since has enabled much of my science. Many seismologists of my generation have received similar support and are concerned about IRIS being around in the future to serve new generations of our community. In the short term, IRIS faces a number of challenges in maintaining the high quality of the core programs, and in 2018 IRIS faces a crossroads with the recompetition of the facility. To continue its success, IRIS needs to develop a compelling vision for the future that articulates the importance of the core programs while at the same time energizing the community to tackle the next grand challenges. I would be honored to help IRIS develop such a vision, prepare for the 2018 recompetition, and strengthen its core programs.
