I am running for the board because I want to help guide IRIS though the re-competition period. My research career has leaned on most all of the IRIS programs at one point or another and I am indebted to the community that has made this possible. Though IRIS is a research consortium, its role in society has expanded well beyond this. IRIS is an absolutely critical component of national, and global, seismic observation and monitoring. In recent years, I have worked extensively in public and legislative advocacy. I spend a lot of time articulating the societal importance of seismology to groups who benefit directly, but do not always realize the vast community efforts that make this possible. As we envision IRIS and its numerous endeavors in a post-2018 world, I want to contribute this perspective and my time and energy to the Board.
