Minutes of the PASSCAL Standing Committee Meeting

PSC members present:

Action Item  

The Instrument Center will look to hire a person with shipping experience on its next hire.

Action Item 

The committee recommends that PASSCAL set aside at least one month every year for maintenance of the Texans.  This should be done even if it means moving the time of an experiment.

PASSCAL should create a “PI Report” to get feedback from PI’s as they return from the field.  This information should be correlated on a yearly basis and given to the committee.  All submissions will be held in confidence.

Field PCs should be treated as expendable items and PIs should be expected to furnish their own if the want more than the minimum number necessary for the experiment.

PASSCAL should pursue support from the Office of Polar Programs cover the extra effort associated with supporting experiments in the polar regions.

PASSCAL should draft a data archive policy for regular experiments and USArray experiments that defines the responsibilities for the PI and PASSCAL with respect to meta-data and the requirements for ancillary data.

PASSCAL should develop a policy for the use of the old instruments.

The “Active Source “ letter should be passed on to the COCOM and the Executive Committee.

PASSCAL will convene a workshop for 20-25 people this year; the report will be used to develop 5-year renewal proposal due August '05

PASSCAL will adopt an “Open Station” Policy where any experiment with 5 or more Broadband stations will declare one station as being “Open”.  Data from this station will be open to anyone after as soon as it is in the DMC.
