A magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck near the Solomon Islands on Sunday morning; there were no immediate reports of damage. The earthquake was centered 100 km (60 miles) south of Kira Kira, a town on the island of Makira, at a depth of 29 km (18 miles).
A magnitude 7.4 earthquake occurred less than 24 hours later approximately 20 km to the southwest of the magnitude 7.6 earthquake.
