A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck just after 9:00PM local time about 208 km (129 mi) south south east of Isangel, Vanuatu and 240 km (150 mi) east of Nouméa (population 182,000), the capital and largest city of New Caledonia. There are no reports of damage or injuries, and no risk of a tsunami.
