Abstract

As the volume of archived seismic data increases, the need to have these data processed and modeled in new and more powerful computational systems has become more important. The High Performance Computing and Seismic Data Working Group (HPCWG) was established to assess the HPC needs of the seismological community for processing seismic data and for performing simulations. We will share results from 350 responses to a 2016 survey of computational needs in seismology. We will then discuss possible paths for addressing the needs identified in the survey. This SIG seeks input from seismic data users or seismic modelers who envision scientific problems that would benefit from greater, and easier to use, computational resources.
