Understanding Earthquakes in the Earth System

This session is designed to provide staff from each Texas Regional Science Collaborative with both classroom activities and new scientific knowledge about earthquakes, plate tectonics, and Earth's interior structure. Participants will learn by experiencing and debriefing activities that explore the causes of earthquakes, earthquakes and plate tectonics, propagation of seismic waves, seismographs, earthquake locations, statistics and earthquake hazards and local seismicity (and more). Curricular materials, access to data and additional resources will be provided. Pedagogies modeled will include argumentation, modeling, and other hands-on approaches.
