Abstract: As the IRIS community appreciates as much as anyone, seismology and related disciplines are, by their nature, global in scope. In addition to investigations focused on regional tectonics and/or global Earth structure, there remains an urgent impetus to better characterize seismic hazard in many parts of the world where risk is high and often growing. Additionally, in many parts of the world, communities of local earthquake professionals are eager for training and partnerships with the international community. Commonly, as part of the so-called broader impact, an international research project includes capacity development activities, which often take the form of a short-term training seminar for international partners, and/or involvement by local partners in field investigations. In this webinar, I discuss projects I have led in recent years in Haiti, Nepal, and Myanmar, with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), including the scientific objectives and the lessons learned for capacity development.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. PLEASE NOTE: Registration does not confirm or guarantee you will have a spot during the webinar, as we are limited to 500 participants.
