The 1994 Northridge earthquake shook the San Fernando Valley north of Los Angeles in the early morning of January 17th. 60 people lost their lives and nearly 9,000 people were injured. While moderate in size, this earthquake had a major impact because it was centered directly beneath a heavily populated urban area.
