IRIS Deploys Seismographs for Great California ShakeOut
IRIS PASSCAL sent 10 Rapid Array Mobilization Program (RAMP) seismographs to Southern California to assist faculty and students at the University of California, Riverside; the University of Southern California, and the University of California, Santa Barbara, in evaluating their response plan following a major earthquake in southern California. During the ShakeOut Drill, the faculty and students learned how to deploy RAMP instruments and to integrate data into the Southern California Seismic Network using cell phone telemetry provided by PASSCAL. Millions of people in homes, schools, businesses, government offices, and public places throughout southern California took part in the Great California ShakeOut on November 13, 2008.
