IRIS Welcomes a New Foreign Affiliate

IRIS is pleased to welcome a new Foreign Affiliate, the Geophysical Survey of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which comprises six seismic networks that collectively monitor an area comparable to all of Europe. Individual researchers affiliated with GS SB RAS have collaborated with US seismologists for decades; staff members from its networks have participated in two recent IRIS Data Services Workshops, and the organization is working with IRIS to improve coordination on seismic data issues with a goal of wider data sharing. Further development of exchanges between GS SB RAS and the IRIS community holds the promise of bringing benefits to the broader society for earthquake hazard and other applications of seismology.
