Ready to head to Mars
IRIS is an Educational Partner on the InSight Mission! InSight is NASA's next mission to Mars, and will put a seismometer on the Martian surface! The launch window, the period in which the spacecraft could launch, begins May 5 and runs through June 8, 2018. After a 6 month flight, InSight's landing on Mars is planned for Nov. 26, 2018, around noon PST (3:00 p.m. EST/8:00 p.m. UTC). We expect data from the seismometer to be available in the spring of 2019 to students! Classrooms will be able to stream Martian seismic data using IRIS's jAmaSeis software. Watch for marsquakes and meteorite impacts with us!
