U.S. State Department Highlights IRIS Cooperation with the University of Chile

As part of his five-day visit to Latin America, President Barak Obama met with Chilean President Sebastian Piñera in Santiago and spoke on U.S. relations with Latin America. Preceding the President's visit, the U.S. Department of State published a fact sheet highlighting IRIS's role in the establishment of ten "Globally Reporting Geophysical Observatories" in Chile.

IRIS International Development Seismology continues to work on developing seismological capacity in Latin America, including the upcoming Pan American Advanced Studies Institute on New Frontiers in Seismological Research to be held in Quito, Ecuador from July 11 to 24, 2011.
