GLISN Station Installed in Thule, Greenland

As part of the recently funded Greenland Ice Sheet Monitoring Network project (GLISN), the first NSF-funded station TULEG has been installed at Thule Air Base, Greenland, in collaboration with the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS). With GLISN funds, the existing GEUS station was upgraded with a new vault, acquisition system (Quanterra Q330) and a real-time telemetry link (ADSL through TeleGreenland). The STS-2 seismometer for this station was provided by GEUS. The installation took place on May 4, 2010, and was performed by PASSCAL Instrument Center field engineers Dean Childs and Guy Tytgat as well as GLISN co-PI Kent Anderson.

Thule is the first of eight stations planned for installation or upgrade this summer season, with the bulk of the field effort planned for July and August. Data are available through the IRIS Data Management Center under the virtual network code _GLISN.

More information on this international project can be found at the GLISN web page.
